Ford Fusion: Supplemental Restraint System / Side Curtain Airbag. Removal and Installation
Removal
NOTE:
Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

WARNING:
Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete
the backup power supply. Ignition must remain OFF until repair is
complete. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious
personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.
If a SRS fault is present, continue to Step 2. Otherwise, turn the ignition off, wait at least one minute and continue to Step 3.

Depower the SRS.
Refer to: Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering (501-20B Supplemental Restraint System, General Procedures).

Lower the headliner.
Refer to: Headliner - Lowering (501-05 Interior Trim and Ornamentation, Removal and Installation).

Remove the screw, release the clip and remove the bracket.
Torque:
80 lb.in (9 Nm)

Detach the wire harness retainer and disconnect the side curtain airbag electrical connector.

Remove the side curtain airbag screws.
Torque:
80 lb.in (9.0 Nm)

Detach the pin-type retainer and the bracket from the A-pillar.

Slide the side curtain airbag up and align the bracket tabs to the sheet metal openings.

Rotate the top of the side curtain airbag away from the sheet metal and detach each of the brackets.

Slide the side curtain airbag up and align the bracket tabs to the sheet metal openings.
-
Rotate the top of the side curtain airbag away from the sheet metal and detach the side curtain airbag.

Slide the side curtain airbag rearward and align the bracket tab to the sheet metal opening.

Rotate the top of the side curtain airbag away from
the sheet metal, disengage the tab and remove the side curtain airbag.
Installation
WARNING:
Before installing a Safety Canopy® or side air curtain
module, inspect the roofline for any damage. If necessary, the sheet
metal must be reworked to its original condition and structural
integrity. Install new fasteners if damaged and remove foreign material.
Failure to follow these instructions may result in the Safety Canopy®
or side air curtain deploying incorrectly, which increases the risk of
serious personal injury or death in a crash.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.

If the SRS was depowered, repower the SRS.
