Ford Fusion: Power Transfer Unit - 6-Speed Automatic Transmission – 6F35 / Power Transfer Unit. Removal

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
    Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview (100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and Operation).
  1. If equipped.
    Remove the underbody shield.

  1. Remove the rear driveshaft.
    Refer to: Rear Driveshaft (205-01 Driveshaft, Removal and Installation).
    • Loosen the clamp, remove the nuts and the CAC inlet tube.
    • Loosen the clamp and disconnect the CAC outlet tube.

  1. Remove the catalytic converter.
    Refer to: Catalytic Converter (309-00B Exhaust System - 2.0L EcoBoost (184kW/250PS) – MI4, Removal and Installation).
  1. Remove the PTU heat shield bolts and the heat shield.

  1. Remove the front halfshaft RH.
    Refer to: Front Halfshaft RH (205-04 Front Drive Halfshafts, Removal and Installation).
  1. Disconnect the PTU vent hose and position it aside.

  1. Remove the PTU drain plug.

  1. Remove the PTU support bracket and bolts.

  1. Remove and discard the upper PTU bolts.

  1. Remove and discard the lower PTU bolts.

  1. Remove the PTU.

    The tire pressure monitoring system measures pressure in your road tires and sends the tire pressure readings to your vehicle. You can view the tire pressure readings through the information display. The low tire pressure warning light will turn on if the tire pressure is significantly low. Once the light is illuminated, your tires are under-inflated and need to be inflated to the manufacturer’s recommended tire pressure. Even if the light turns on and a short time later turns off, your tire pressure still needs to be checked.
